The Quakertown Zoning Board is a group, appointed by Borough Council, who hears appeals from property owners and tenants concerning proposed uses and buildings that do not conform to the Quakertown Zoning Code. They are an individual Board who have the legal ability to grant variances and special exceptions.

 General Borough Ordinances

  • Permits are required for:
     - New construction, additions, and exterior alterations
     - Electrical upgrades and Plumbing changes
     - Siding & Roofing
     - Erecting curbs, sidewalks, steps, and fences
     - Swimming pools, sheds, and yard sales
     - Signs including temporary signs
     - Businesses (Use Permit)
     - Temporary Uses
  • Meters - Electric and water meters are property of the Borough and the Borough employees must be allowed access to the meter at all times.
  • Nuisance - Refers to noxious weeds, unreasonable noise, barking dogs or other problems with animals etc.
  • Garage (Yard Sales) must be held between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. Monday - Saturday. There is no fee, but a permit is needed and can be secured in the utility office or it can be downloaded and mailed or dropped off at Borough Hall. Sunday sales are not permitted.
  • Snow Removal - Sidewalks must have a 24-inch path cleared within 36 hours of the end of the snowfall.

 Park Ordinances

  • Permits are required for:
    - using a metal detector
    - large gatherings anywhere in the Borough including parks.
  • Dogs must be leashed.
  • Alcohol is not allowed.
  • Cars must be parked in designated areas
  • Playing golf is permitted only in the northeastern
    portion of Memorial Park.

Although the Zoning and Code Enforcement Officers are sometimes in the field, the Secretary can give residents information and issue certain permits. Residents may call in advance to find out if the Secretary can assist them or if they need an appointment to see the Zoning or Code Enforcement Officer. A copy of the Zoning Ordinance including a map can be purchased in the Utility or Zoning Office for $45. The fee for the map alone is $5.00.

The UCC (Uniform Construction Code) has been
adopted as the Building Code of the Borough of Quakertown for Building, Plumbing, Fire, Mechanical, and Maintenance projects. Building and Zoning questions can be addressed to the Zoning Office at 215-536-5001.
