STREET SWEEPING
The Public Works Department periodically does street sweeping. In order to do a thorough job, especially during the first spring sweeping, it is necessary to have all cars removed from the streets. Whenever a street is posted for sweeping, cars must be moved by the time indicated on the signs. Since weather conditions prohibit giving more than a day's notice, residents who go out of town and have a car parked on the street, may want to leave a car key with a neighbor.
ALL CARS THAT ARE NOT MOVED WHEN STREETS ARE POSTED WILL BE TICKETED.
To make the sweeping more successful, residents should sweep debris and dirt from the sidewalks into the street when the street is posted. Sweeping is done to
enhance your neighborhood and the Borough asks for your cooperation.

TRASH and RECYCLING
PA law requires all residents of Quakertown Borough to recycle. Borough Ordinances mandate the recycling of cans, green, clear and brown glass, and newspapers.

In addition to cans, glass, and newspapers, Ches-Mont will collect plastics, which can be commingled with the other items. Newspapers can be tied or bundled in bags. Magazines, junk mail, telephone books and cracker and cereal boxes can be put with newspapers. Corrugated cardboard must be bundled and tied and placed out separately.

Recycling bins are available from Ches-Mont Disposal. It is mandatory for all Borough dwellings with three units or fewer to use Ches-Mont Disposal for the collection of their trash and recycling. Residents have a choice of using a cart or a pay-by-the-bag program. Residents that contract for a cart may put out the cart plus two non-Borough trash bags each week.

Arrangements for a cart can be made by calling Ches-Mont at their toll-free number - 1-866-871-9953. Bags can be purchased in a package of 4 bags for $16 at these grocery stores—Boyers, Redners, and the Giant in the Plaza Shopping Center.

One "bulky" item will be picked up each month during large trash week - the second full week of each month. Specific dates are listed in our newsletter. Tires and items that contain freon are excluded from the large trash collection. Call Ches-Mont Disposal to make arrangements for collection of these items.

LEAF COLLECTION
Pennsylvania Law prohibits placing leaves in the trash. Leaves must be composted or placed out for collection. Leaves are collected in the spring and fall. Leaves can be raked into the gutter or placed at the curb in non-Borough bags.

In the spring, leaves are collected each Monday during April. In the fall, leaf collection takes place from the second week of October until the second week of December. The crews do their best to adhere to the following schedule:

Monday - All of Main St. and streets from Main Street west to the Borough line.
Tuesday - All of Ninth St. and streets from Ninth Street to, but not including Main St.
Wednesday - All of Front St. and all streets from Front Street to, but not including 9th St.
Thursday - All of Ambler St. and all streets between Ambler St. and the railroad tracks.
Friday - All streets east of Ambler St. to the Borough line.

The leaf vacuum cannot pick up twigs, fruits, nuts, vines, or flower. These items must be composted or placed in the trash.

Residents may place leaves in non-Borough bags at any time but if it is not during the regular leaf collection, residents must call Borough Hall to have the bagged leaves collected.
