JULY 4TH COMMUNITY DAY The Community Day Celebration on July 4 th has become an annual tradition and is made possible by the Borough of Quakertown and generous donations from area businesses. Civic and sports organizations form the committee and coordinate Community Day. The organizations are the foundation for this event and donate all of their proceeds toward the day's expenses. The all-day celebration begins at 8 a.m. and features a pancake breakfast, an antique car show, games, food booths, and on-stage programs from 11 a.m. until the closing Fireworks at 9:30 p.m. A schedule of events is available on the Borough Website each year as it becomes available. STREET SWEEPING The Public Works Department periodically does street sweeping. In order to do a thorough job, especially during the first spring sweeping, it is necessary to have all cars removed from the streets. Whenever a street is posted for sweeping, cars must be moved by the time indicated on the signs. Since weather conditions prohibit giving more than a day's notice, residents who go out of town and have a car parked on the street, may want to leave a car key with a neighbor. ALL CARS THAT ARE NOT MOVED WHEN STREETS ARE POSTED WILL BE TICKETED. To make the sweeping more successful, residents should sweep debris and dirt from the sidewalks into the street when the street is posted. Sweeping is done to enhance your neighborhood and the Borough asks for your cooperation. TRASH AND RECYCLING PA law requires all residents of Quakertown to recycle. Borough Ordinances require the recycling of cans, green, clear and brown glass, and newspapers. It is mandatory for all Borough dwellings with three units or fewer to use Ches-Mont Disposal for the collection of their trash and recycling. Recycling bins can be obtained from Quakertown’s contracted recycling and trash hauler. Residents have a choice of using a cart or a pay-by-the-bag program for trash. Arrangements for a cart can be made by calling Ches-Mont at 1-866-871-9953. Bags can be purchased in a package of 4 bags for $16 at these grocery stores - The Plaza Giant, Boyers and Redners. In addition, Ches-Mont will collect plastics which can be commingled with cans and glass. Newspapers can be tied or bundled in bags. Magazines, junk mail, telephone books, cracker, and cereal type boxes can be put with newspapers. Corrugated cardboard boxes must be tied and bundled and placed out with trash. |
